It’s that time of the year again.
And no, I don’t mean Christmas.
It’s the time of year when you become closer to your math book than your friends and you can’t quite remember what “fun” means. For all you know it’s one of those torturous English vocabulary words you are made to memorize so that you can expand your horizons. Speaking of expanding horizons, the Senior X-Men at the Xavier Institute have been working you so hard that it hurts to even sweat. And you’ve been doing that a lot lately.
Which has been making you smell.
And that one boy in your civics class has been looking at you oddly because of that – he also makes rude gesticulations to his friends, but you can’t be concerned with that. There are much more important things for you to be concerned with. You are, after all, an X-Man. A protector of the people…and failure of math class. If you fail another test you’ll probably be held back another year. And that’s just great. You’d think the teachers would cut you some slack because, after all, without you they’d have been mashed potatoes because of the rampage made by the more unstable mutants.
But, no way. You’re on a no ask, no tell basis. And even if they did ask you wouldn’t be able to tell them. Who’d have thought growing up would be this complicated? You surely didn’t. It was all a piece of cake until you sprouted a tail and you began to be able to tell what people were thinking. As far as you know, that’s not normal adolescence. You’re parents say it’s just a phase – that you’re imaging things. That’s not true, though; you know that. And, it scares you.
At least, it did.
Then a letter in the mail came from a man named Charles Xavier, a man that would change your life. You went to his school, at first thinking that it was for “gifted youngsters”: well, the students were gifted, but not in the way that you have thought. It’s funny how you never think of others going through similar issues until you meet them. And meet them you did. Dare I say it; you’re friends with these students. With these people who can create fire by just thinking of it and so much more. No wonder humans fear.
And, they have good reason to fear, too.
Just because you have a mutation doesn’t mean you’ll use it for the best. You’re confused, scared – easily taken advantage of. The man who does this is powerful, more powerful seeming than the man burdened by the wheelchair – how could you not follow Erik Lehnsherr? With his smooth talking tongue he convinces you to join his cause: the Brotherhood. This almost lacks the homey feeling of Charles Xavier’s X-Men, but the purpose is entirely different. And what’s more, Erik Lehnsherr, the infamous Magneto, has left the house – leaving all its inhabitants, even his own children, without a word or note other than to tell them to lay low for a while.
All alone now, what are you to do? Magneto is, no doubt, planning something, but do you want to be part of it?
