In every organism on Earth there exists a mutator gene - the X-factor as it has come to be known. It is the basic building block of evolution - the reason we have evolved from homo habilus, to homo erectus, to homo sapiens Neanderthals, and, finally, to homo sapiens. Taking it's cues from the climate, terrain, various sources of nourishment, the mutator gene tells the body when it needs to change to adapt to a new environment. The process is subtle, normally taking thousands of years. Only in the last few thousand years did mankind begin to make clothes for himself, build shelters, use heat and grow food in large quantities. With this man-made environment remaining relatively stable, the X-factor became dormant. Until now...
It has been four months since the big battle at Alcatraz and the X-men are trying to get their life back together. With the loss of their beloved Professor, Ororo Munroe was left to be the Headmistress of Xavier's School for the Gifted, as well as the team leader of the mutant do gooder group, The X-Men. Logan is dealing with the death of both Jean Grey and Scott Summers, and the rest of the X-men group is trying to survive in a world that most of the world's population agrees whole heartily with the 'cure'. Though things are beginning to calm down in Winchester New York, things are not always as they seem.
The world is in a complete uproar, and what is to come will make even the battle on Alcatraz island seem like child's play. Because as an old Power dies, a new one rises, with a stronger and more dangerous team of mutants; and The X-men will have to fight not only their own kind but the humans who believe every single mutant on earth should be 'cured'. The mutants of the world will either have to give in and learn to deal with what is going on around them or they will have to band together and take out what could possibly be their ultimate demise.
It is no longer a battle of good mutant versus bad mutant, but a battle for survival. A battle that will pivot human being against human being. Belief and anger driven, tensions will rise and passions will be uncovered. It all comes down to this; Does The X-men have what it takes to be able to come out of this the victor, or will Magneto's band of very different viewed mutants take the trophy from them, or will it ultimately be the humans who have the last laugh and the mutant race will be exterminated for good? The choice is theirs, the story is now, and no one can expect what is to come. Death is not as final as one would think....
Because deep underneath the earth's depths, something has been awoken, and it has been shaken from within. With a death, something new rises from below. This is From The Ashes..
